As the Windsors’ story comes to a close in The Crown, Netflix sets its eyes across the Atlantic to American president JFK as a possible new historical series.

Netflix may have found its new hit historical drama. The Crown’s last season is yet to be released but Variety has reported that a brand new series is in the works, this time focusing on the life—and ultimately, assassination—of American President John F. Kennedy. According to the report, Netflix is viewing this as the American version of The Crown

The series is based on JFK: Coming Of Age In The American Century, 1917-1956, a two-volume book that released the first volume back in 2020. The first volume chronicles Kennedy’s early years and his start in politics. Aside from that, not much is known about the series, like whether it will follow The Crown’s pattern of casting different actors for characters as they age. It’s also not clear yet how many seasons this series will have.

Eric Roth will write and executive produce the series. Roth has a number of films under his belt as a writer, including iconic ones like Forrest Gump and 2018’s A Star is Born, the former winning him an Oscar while the latter got him nominated. However, there is currently no showrunner as of yet so the streaming giant is on the hunt for one.

As Netflix mounts up production on this brand new historical drama, The Crown is set to finally drop the curtain on its six-season story chronicling the reign of the late Queen Elizabeth II. The final season, which premieres on November 4, will see Elizabeth’s reign in the modern era, kicking off with the controversial death of Princess Diana.
